A man’s body was found in a freezer inside a home and the victim’s son was taken into custody.
Family members entered the South Philadelphia row home Friday morning to check on those they had not heard from, investigators said.
Upon entering the home, family members saw blood and called police just before 6:30 a.m., WPVI reported.
Police responding to the scene found what appeared to be a male corpse in the freezer box. Beside it lay a bloody knife with a large blade.
“The position the body is in — face down, curled up, with a bag over his head — we’re not even sure who that person is,” said Scott Small, chief inspector of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police officers took the man’s son into custody as a person of interest.
A father and his adult son frequently stayed at the home, police said. However, it was not clear if anyone lived in the house permanently.
There were no initial signs of a forced entry into the home and the apartment was not robbed, investigators said.
“Someone could have entered or exited this property and committed this crime,” Small said. “And we found numerous cameras on both sides of the street.”
Neighbors expressed shock at the discovery.
“It’s right around the corner from me,” South Philly’s Yusuf Mitchell told WPVI. “This is crazy, and this is a quiet area.”
