Petr Cech says he “lives off his phone” as Chelsea look to “bolster” Thomas Tuchel’s squad at Stamford Bridge and challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is ready to shell out around £200m for signings this summer, with the Blues linked with Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.

While Chelsea won the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup last season, they were unable to match domestic rivals Man City or Liverpool and failed to defend their Champions League crown.

At the very least, Tuchel wants to sign a replacement for Real Madrid’s new signing Antonio Rudiger and a striker who could potentially replace Romelu Lukaku, who is keen to join Inter Milan this summer.

Cech anticipates a “busy summer” at Stamford Bridge and insists the club will try to get active in the transfer market and make the squad “as strong as possible”.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper and current technical director said: “I live on the phone! It will be a busy summer, we will plan, prepare and try to be as strong as possible next season.

“I think everyone knows where we are in relation to the team. Of course we will try to strengthen the team.

“We want to deliver the best possible part and be ready for next season. It’s going to be a tough season with a world championship in between, so we have to be prepared for that.”

Speaking about the 2021-22 season, Tuchel added: “We won two big trophies and lost two finals on penalties, which was unfortunate.

“It is true that we lost points in November and December last season as we struggled with Covid. This is where I think the difference was made.

“We hope we can avoid that and be consistent next season and challenge everyone.”

Cech – who won four Premier League titles and the Champions League with Chelsea – also praised Tuchel, not only for guiding the club to multiple trophies but for coping with the chaos surrounding the recent takeover .

“He did an incredible job and last season he handled the whole situation very well and managed to pull his team through,” said Cech. “I hope he can continue like this.”
