A man has been charged with murder after his girlfriend’s body was discovered in a shallow grave while they fled to Peru together.
Jorge Garay, 46, of Dartford, is accused of killing the mother of a Karla Godoy, 36, in Lima.
She is believed to have died between Wednesday September 21 and Sunday October 2 before her remains were found in a blue bag.
He is due to appear before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court later today.
Kent Police say they are working “closely” with Peruvian authorities to get to the bottom of the case.
Tributes have been received for Karla, a Honduran-Spanish national who is said to have worked with her boyfriend at HMRC’s truck park in Ebbsfleet.
“Her heart was filled with love for her daughter and her family,” said Mary-Jane Pettit, CEO of Pioneer Facilities Management.
“Karla will be sorely missed and her friends and work family are devastated.
“Our love and prayers are with Karla’s family at this very sad time.”
