People greet 2023 with almighty hangovers and sore heads for breakfast

Going out on New Year’s Eve is like jam – you either love it or you hate it.
Wherever you’re at the parties to ring in the new year, a picture is worth a thousand words and we’ve rounded up the best – or arguably the worst – from last night.
The celebrations started early, with pubs, restaurants and bars filling up by the early afternoon.
Some revelers opted for practical attire, sporty sneakers and jeans, but others donned their best costume, including giant traffic cones.
There were also people in tuxedos and glamorous sequined dresses and high heels.
People braved the wet weather to welcome 2023 after the Met Office issued amber warnings for rain in south west England and south Wales and warnings for ice and snow in the Scottish Highlands.
Thousands braved the wet weather in Leeds and Newcastle and hit clubs and bars.
Lidl and Sainsbury’s shopping bags were used by a few resourceful partygoers to cover their hair as rain poured down on them.
Others opted for raincoats to stay dry while queuing to get into clubs, where music blared into the wee hours.
Despite pleas for people not to get drunk, some have been seen ill on streets outside pubs.
St. John Ambulance operations commissioner Mike Gibbons had urged partygoers to “speed up” due to the pressure on healthcare.
But there were those who had to end the celebrations before midnight.
Big Ben’s bong marked the start of the New Year as more than 100,000 people watched the fireworks from Thames Embankment in central London.
The sold-out show was meant to send a message of “love and unity.”
It highlighted the Lionesses’ historic Euros win at Wembley Park, marked 50 years of London’s Pride with a message from Peter Tatchell and sent a message of support to Ukraine.
The exhibition also paid tribute to the late Queen with a voice recording of her and words by Dame Judi Dench.
