Patriots sign OT Calvin Anderson, sack veteran QB Hoyer – Boston News, Weather, Sports

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The Patriots added some depth to the offensive line with Thursday’s signing of tackle Calvin Anderson.
The team also fired veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer, who completed his third stint in New England.
It’s a bit of a homecoming for Anderson. The 26-year-old spent the last four seasons in Denver but originally signed with the Patriots as a rookie free agent in 2019 before being released. He was briefly with the Jets before being signed by Denver, where he appeared in 41 games from 12 starts.
Anderson has experience on both the left and right sides of the line and could be a candidate to earn a starting spot with Isaiah Wynn’s status as an unsigned free agent up in the air.
Hoyer, 37, also signed as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots in 2009 and spent his first three seasons in New England. He returned towards the end of the 2017 season and was on the roster throughout the 2018 season. He returned for his last assignment of 2020.
His 14 NFL seasons also included stints in Arizona (2012), Pittsburgh (2012), Cleveland (2013-14), Houston (2015), Chicago (2016), San Francisco (2017), and Indianapolis (2019).
Hoyer made a total of 30 starts in New England, including two starts. Overall, he has appeared in 76 regular-season games from 40 starts and has completed 902 of 1,518 passes for 10,688 yards, 53 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.
