Patrick Mahomes is struggling after suffering a serious ankle injury

Super Bowl LVII quickly became a shootout between the Chiefs and the Eagles, with Philadelphia leading 21-14. It certainly looked like a game where both star QBs would need to be at their best to clinch a win, but optimism for a fun second half was dashed in the final two minutes of the second quarter when Patrick Mahomes injured his Knuckle hit a scramble and struggled to hobble off the field.
FOX’s camera stayed on the sidelines on Mahomes and showed him in agony as coaches looked at his ankle while Chad Henne quickly warmed up on the side if needed. Mahomes would stay on the sidelines and not go to the dressing room early, which hopefully boded well for a possible return, but his reaction was notable, especially for those who know him well.
This is a different look and vibe from Pat than the last one. I saw part frustration, part exhaustion, and part despair that he had either readjusted it and/or injured it worse. Last time it was defiance against the injury itself. That looks more worrying given his reaction.

The Eagles didn’t return the ball to the Chiefs to end the half, meaning we probably won’t get an official update until after halftime, but it was an unfortunate turn of events that ended what was very funny at first, thwarted half. Even if he keeps playing, you’d think he wouldn’t be able to function at 100 percent, and that’s a significant disadvantage for a Kansas City offense so dependent on his playmaking skills.
