MIAMI GARDENS, Florida. – A year has passed since the deadly mass shooting at El Mula Banquet Hall in Miami Gardens.
That night, three people were killed and 20 others injured.
On Monday, the parents of one of those victims returned to the scene.
For Rico Clayton Dillard, it’s like time stood still when he lost his son.
Clayton ‘Nane’ Dillard III was one of the three people killed in this shootout.
A year later, there are still more questions, and Dillard says people just stopped talking.
“The families go numb to it, man,” he said. “The fathers aren’t even here.”
The shooting happened on Memorial Day in 2021 when three men ambushed a crowd outside the banquet hall.
Warneric Buckner was later arrested but the charges were dropped because his confession was made after he asked for a lawyer.
Vomte Barnes was also arrested and told investigators he scouted the scene and was on the lookout for the other shooters involved.
It seems the men were after someone in particular, but the crowd was too big.
Parents like Dillard want more people to get in touch to help the police and prosecutors find a deal for him and his family.
