Paperwork keeps Lynn Pop Warner’s football team from attending Nationals – Boston News, Weather, Sports

LYNN, MASS. (WHDH) — Paperwork issues have kept a Pop Warner team in Lynn from competing in the National Championships.

The East Lynn Bulldogs were scheduled to travel to Orlando, Fla. on December 3 to compete for the national title after an unbeaten football season. On Saturday, the team had won the regional championship over Everett. But a paperwork issue changed everything for the new state champions.

The coaches said the physical stats of two players were not up to date. According to the coaches, the team met the requirements and submitted physical tests by the end of the day 2022, but Pop Warner said it was too late and disqualified the team .

“This is the Super Bowl for kids, so it’s something that’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for kids,” said Javier Baez, a father of one of the players.

The children agreed that the decision was devastating.

“It’s basically like all your hard work goes for nothing when you pull it off,” said Limbert Thomas, the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback. “My lifelong dream has been fulfilled.”

“I felt it was unfair because we won and no one wants to play runner-up, you’d rather play number one,” said Jayden Pena, a player on the team.

The players, parents and coaches aren’t the only ones disappointed.

“It’s a bad decision, hopefully there’s still time to reconsider,” Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson said. “These leagues should be about the kids.”

“These kids won this competition,” Nicholson continued. “[The team] have earned that right and done whatever was asked of them and, given the chance, will continue,” said Nicholson. “We really hope they will reconsider if this is a chance they deserve.”
