Our sex is louder than the Jubilee flyby and we spent the holidays banging for Queen and Country

Is all that Nookie keeping you up at night for the wrong reasons?

Couples in love sparked dozens of complaints from their terrified neighbors last year, prompting some local councils to install recording equipment in nearby homes to catch them in the act.

A couple in Warwick could be seen and heard having sex in their kitchen – with the windows open and the lights on.

Sound expert Simon Rehill of Pulsar Instruments told The Sun: “In the heat of the moment, people can forget how loud they are.

“And the noise levels can be devastating for those nearby who don’t have adequate soundproofing.”

Simon helped us measure some of the UK’s loudest couples by installing decibel noise recorders in their bedrooms.

He revealed: “I was shocked by some of the results.”

Here, loud lovers Georgette Culley and Alley Einstein share their passion for loud sex, while Simon reveals the results show their romps were as loud as a spinning chainsaw or a jet taking off.

“I pretended to hurt myself with the noise” — Lizzy, 28, and
James, 36

MUM Lizzy Byrne, a social media marketer, and James Barrett, a hotel service manager, think a loud love life is healthy.

The couple live in Truro, Cornwall with their children.

Lizzy said: “It wasn’t long before the neighbors were complaining about the falls and bangs and loud ‘unusual noises’.

Lizzy says: “When we first made love, James admitted he was pleasantly surprised at how vocal I was.

He said a previous girlfriend he had was always silent and he never knew if he did anything wrong.

I loved the fact that James was loud even in the bedroom and encouraged myself to do it – hearing him turned me on too.

It was 2017 and at the time we lived in a one bedroom apartment and the walls were very thin.

It wasn’t long before neighbors were complaining about banging and loud “unusual noises.”

When a neighbor showed up on our doorstep and complained, I acted like I hurt myself and my neighbor rolled his eyes and hissed, “It didn’t sound like you were in pain, quite the opposite.”

Another time we were camping with friends and they had to move their tent because “their ears hurt”.

James and I broke up after a year. I was 23 at the time and he was 31 and we had different priorities. But we still thought of each other.

Two months ago I broke up with my partner and James and I got back together.

Although we now have children and responsibilities, the five-year break in the bedroom hasn’t clouded us.

I make sure the kids are at school or with their dad so we can make as much noise as we want.

We live in a three bedroom family home now so it’s a little easier to get by with.

For us, sex is all about touch, feel and sound. i love to scream

We’re proud to be one of the loudest couples in Britain and we’ve spent the Platinum Jubilee bonking for Queen and Country.”

James says: “I was shocked by the peak level of 131.8 decibels. It didn’t hurt our ears though, so maybe we’re a bit deaf.

“I feel sorry for the neighbors. They’re a nice bunch, so maybe we’ll try to keep it low. That might turn us on instead.”

Simon says: “This awe-inspiring reading is the equivalent of the crowd cheering during the Platinum Jubilee flyover, a jackhammer, or a rock concert.

“The readings we collected were peak decibels – and all three couples wouldn’t be able to stand that noise for eight hours, which is a relief to their neighbors. Residents should invest in good hearing protection, even during peak times.”

“I really had no idea we were jackhammer loud” – Charley and Tony, both 30

SOCIAL media marketer Charley Parker lives in Norwich with Tony Cope, a marketing executive, and their two young children.

Her neighbors even posted letters to get her to keep the noise down.

Charley said, “We tried to keep the noise down, but it made sex boring and weird.”

Charley says: “WE knew we were loud between the sheets but had no idea how loud until we put the decibel meter in our room.

We have healthy sex lives and are really enjoying ourselves, but maybe we need to think about our neighbors now.

I had no idea we were loud as a jackhammer! I have to admit I hate that sound so it must be annoying – basically like living near a construction site, especially since we make love on a daily basis and it usually lasts between 15 and 30 minutes.

We live in a two bedroom semi detached house on a quiet cul-de-sac.

When we moved in two and a half years ago, it wasn’t long before neighbors knocked on our door or left a note.

We had angry news that we woke them up and that we should reinforce our walls.

We also heard neighbors passive-aggressively slamming their front doors to send a signal.

At first we were embarrassed and thought, “Are we really that loud?”

We tried to keep the noise down, but it made sex boring and weird.

After a few weeks we got fed up and went back to our old ways.

We’re not prepared to give up orgasms because some neighbors are mad.

We’ve been together for four years and loud sex is an important part of our relationship.

We knew we were loud between the sheets but had no idea how loud until we put the decibel meter in our room.

Charlie Parker

I’m plus size and people think taller girls can’t have loud and active sex.

This test breaks those taboos and is a huge confidence booster.

When our first son was born in April 2020, within nine days we were noisily in love again.

And we didn’t stop after the birth of our second son, who was born 14 weeks ago. They are both solid sleepers.

Having the decibel meter set up in our room was a real eye opener.

Maybe we’ll try to limit it to 7 bits, but I think it’s going to be difficult

Tony says: “I hate quiet sex. Making love to someone who doesn’t moan and stay silent is weird and like sleeping with a corpse.

“Charley is amazing in bed and hearing her moan really turns me on and makes me want to please her more.

“She wants to keep it a little quieter now that the meter reading has told us exactly how loud we are, but I can’t imagine that lasting long.”

Simon says: “This pair recorded peaks of 111 to 128 decibels.

“It’s the equivalent of a sergeant major yelling at a parade, a trombone, a chainsaw, a big factory riveter, or a jackhammer.

“This level is 40 decibel points above the legal level in the standard work environment, such as a busy office or a school corridor at recess.”

“My screams of joy boost his confidence” – April, 31, and Tom, 29

PHOTOGRAPHER April Naylor and her fiancé Tom Jackson, an outdoor adventure guide, live in Bolton with their 13-month-old son Logan and are proud to be crowned the UK’s loudest weirdos.

April says: “Being loud and proud is important to Tom and me in the bedroom.

We don’t just have sex in the bedroom at night – we like to do it in adventurous places and when we feel like it.

Tom knows I love what he does in bed and my screams of pleasure turn him on and boost his confidence.

We met in 2014 and moved in together four years later.

We were staying in a one-bedroom apartment in a six-apartment complex – and it wasn’t long before we started getting complaints.

A neighbor pasted a note on our door saying it felt like living near an airport, so we thought it was funny that our score on this test was the same as a plane taking off.

More and more neighbors started complaining, putting notes under the floor telling us to turn it down or they would call the police.

Soon our landlord asked us to be quiet.

He added awkwardly, “Besides, you guys make the perfect tenants.”

At first we thought it was a joke. But we realized that wasn’t the case when the atmosphere in our condominium became awkward with the other tenants.

After six months of complaints we had no choice but to move out.

We weren’t ready to change our bedroom habits.

When we had Logan last May, we didn’t muffle the noise.

April Naylor

He is a super hypothermic baby and can sleep through anything.

We knew we’d do well if we put the decibel meter around our house, but even we were surprised at how loud we are.

With a peak of 133.2 decibels, we proved how much we love each other – and sex.

Tom says: “We are not embarrassed by our result. Too many people are afraid to let go during sex and need to be more open-minded.

“Our former neighbors need to loosen up and worry about their own sex lives, not ours.

“We now live in a two bedroom detached house surrounded by fields at the bottom of a hill.

“Our neighbors are very polite and never say anything, but they’re far enough away not to hear much.”

Simon says: “If you compare the peak here to the Health and Safety Executive’s noise graph, it’s louder than a jet plane taking off at 25 meters, a jackhammer, or a police siren.

“The decibel meter should have been right next to them to record that level.

“The farther you are from a sound, the lower the reading.”
