Oscar presenter Jimmy Kimmel is ready for another slap in the face

Knowing what we know, in 2023 it’s extremely unlikely that anyone will be punched at this year’s Academy Awards given what happened last year. A “non-violent” awards ceremony might seem like a no-brainer, but at this point we just can’t take any chances. The industry cannot deal with this. But… let’s say it does happen (again, it probably Habit). What would really go down?
According to this year’s host Jimmy Kimmel, he’s ready to defend the honor and integrity of the awards show by beating up anyone who tries to hit him. It all makes sense when you think about it. The Oscars are so fragile that even a threat to the stage could send the production into a frenzy. But Kimmel is willing to take one for the team.
It was recently reported that the academy is hiring a “crisis response team” to ensure things run smoothly on the big night. But Kimmel knows nothing about that. “I wasn’t involved in that. I think I’m the last thing they worry about,” the host told Variety in a new interview. “I feel like I should at least know what was discussed so I know what to fear when I go on stage. But I really suspect it has to do mostly with UFOs.”
So let’s say it’s not UFOs and some unoriginal prankster tries to storm the stage and hit Kimmel. what would he do “You mean if someone comes on stage and hits me? Well, I rate them, and if I’m taller than them, I’ll beat them to death on TV,” Kimmel recently told the magazine, adding, “And if it’s the Rock, I run.” The Rock loves it, sneaking up on people at awards shows, besides being a historically good fighter.
While Kimmel will be safe from physical threats, he’s nonetheless disappointed in his latest slip, the infamous one La La Land/Moonlight 2017 debacle. But he’s not mad it happened, he’s mad it was overshadowed by The Slap. “We were removed from the list. It’s disappointing in a lot of ways,” Kimmel admitted. “If you want to be part of af*ckup, it might as well be the greatest fuckup of all time. Being part of the second biggest f*ckup doesn’t have that much prestige.”
Here’s hoping there’s a bloodbath on stage, for no other reason than pure entertainment. Movies are back baby!
