According to a Box Elder County news release, a seasonal weed control worker is injured and another dead after two apparent work-related accidents Tuesday near the Promontory area.
Both employees worked for the county and sprayed noxious weeds in different locations, said Anne Hansen, Assistant Attorney for Box Elder County. The names of the two workers were not released.
According to the press release, the first employee was “seriously injured” and taken to a hospital.
The second worker died at the scene. Further details on the apparent accidents or their cause were not released on Tuesday evening.
“This is incredibly sad news and we are all working on the investigation right now to find out exactly what happened so we can move forward,” Hansen said.
To avoid a conflict of interest, Hansen said Utah State Parks will conduct investigations, as will the Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division.
Promontory is a high-altitude area at the northern end of the Great Salt Lake. The first transcontinental railroad was completed at Promontory Point in 1869.
