A light plane has crashed at a private ranch in Florida, killing one and injuring another.

The plane crashed in Palm City today and local police confirmed the injured person was a bystander trying to save the pilot.

Roads around the crash site at SW 48th Terrace were closed due to emergency services being at the scene.

The reason for the crash, the condition of the injured person and the identity of the pilot are not yet known, reports The Mirror.

Pictures taken at the scene show the plane wreckage covered in ash with thick smoke billowing from it.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the accident to put out the fire after the plane “exploded in a fireball”.

The plane is hardly recognizable as it broke into several pieces.

A statement shared on social media by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said, “We and the Martin County Fire Department are at the scene of a light aircraft crash at a private ranch.”
