A drive-by shooting at a high school graduation killed a woman and injured seven others, police said.

It was one of several shootings over the weekend that shook the US, including one in Philadelphia that killed three people and injured 11 and one in Tennessee that killed three and wounded another 14.

About 150 people were at the graduation ceremony near Summerton, South Carolina, when the shooting began around 11 p.m. Saturday night, according to Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley.

The shooting may have been gang-related, Baxley said. It is unclear if any of the victims were specifically targeted in the attack.

Investigators have not yet determined “whether shots were fired at specific individuals or randomly into the crowd,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on Facebook.

The woman who was fatally shot has been identified as 32-year-old Audrionna Kind, officials said. She had been flown to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Officials said she is a mother of four whose children attended classes at the Clarendon School District.

Most of those wounded in the shooting were teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. Two other victims were 12 and 36 years old. Police have not disclosed the conditions of the surviving victims.

At least 70 shell casings were discovered at the scene, according to CBS.

“It is not yet clear if some of those shots may have been returned by some of the subjects at the party,” the sheriff’s office said.

Two vehicles reportedly drove up to the outdoor gathering before opening fire.

The drive-by suspects fled the scene after the incident, and the sheriff’s office is seeking information on the case.

“These acts of violence cannot continue,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Innocent children and adults suffer the consequences of these acts.”
