Ohio School employee accused of forcing students to eat waffles taken from trash


A recent lawsuit against a Cleveland school district alleges one school personnel about forcing a child to eat food taken from the trash.

Last week, a federal civil rights lawsuit was filed by Cleveland attorney Jared Klebanow on behalf of Latasha Williams, the mother of a fourth-grader at Palm Elementary, WOIO report. Williams claims her daughter was forced to eat food in a trash can in front of her classmates.

The incident is said to have happened after the child threw the plate of waffles she was served in the lunchroom because she didn’t like the taste of it.

The lawsuit alleges the student told the school’s principal that she “didn’t like the waffles” and “requested another meal.” Fox 8 report.

After the principal asked the girl to “eat all that was on her tray,” the student “throws the remaining waffles out,” the suit wrote. After a lunchroom employee saw the child throw out the waffles, the staff told the child to take the napkin and take the waffles out of the trash.

The employee is said to have forced the child to eat waffles in front of all the students in the lunchroom at the time.

“It’s humiliating, it’s disgraceful and unacceptable,” Klebanow said. “Every citizen, including children, has the right to physical integrity.

“The victim was a child whose constitutional rights were violated by this educator. This is an educator hired to protect our children, not to demean them and humiliate them.”

The lawsuit claims the incident left the child “frightened and ashamed” and felt sick from eating food taken from the trash. The child also needs mental health treatment as a result of the incident. The lawsuit argues that the child was targeted because she was black.

“The kid is afraid of their school, doesn’t want to eat lunch at school. I think she’s going to have a hard time trusting educators and managers moving forward,” Klebanow said.
