Officials investigate after man dies in Danvers state police cell – Boston News, Weather, Sports

DANVERS, MASS. (WHDH) – Officials are investigating after a New Hampshire man died in a cell at the Danvers state police barracks on Saturday, police said.

Police officers arrested a 49-year-old Fremont man in Saugus at 2:30 a.m. and charged him with driving under the influence, possession of a Class B drug and speeding, police said. Police officers booked the man and put him in a cell at the barracks, checking his condition every half hour before realizing he was unresponsive at 11:30 a.m., police said.

Soldiers provided first aid and called rescue workers, but the man was pronounced dead at barracks, police said. The Essex County Attorney’s Office is investigating.
