Nursing student online shop during class sparking debate

A recent viral TikTok that revealed nursing students planning vacations and buying engagement rings during class is of great concern to prospective patients.
Students in the clip are also shown shopping online, playing games like Stardew Valley, and watching shows on streaming services.
“You’d better start exercising and eating healthy,” TikTok user Daphne (@daphnemorejon) writes in the overlay text. “These are nursing students during lecture.” In the caption, she jokes, “Due to legal issues…this was recorded during recess.”

However, many users justified the actions of the nursing students in the comments.
“Because the professor reads the same damn words on this PPT,” one revealed. “Shoot, I can do that at home.”
“Tbh I used to teach myself as they read straight from the slides, even in NP school now I don’t pay attention because they read straight from the slide,” agreed another.
The commenters agreed that real learning takes place in the workplace.
“Soo true but that’s because the actual learning was in the clinic!!!” commented one viewer. “We could all read the slides in peace.”
“You guys, you learn more working with a teacher who hates your guts,” one added.
And one commenter said that Jobs often has necessary information on hand for reference.
“I work at a dentist and even our chief dentist keeps a folder full of notes and instructions for more complex procedures,” the viewer wrote. “No one remembers ts.”
Many claim that they turn to informative TikToks for their nursing education, such as B. Nurse Sarah (@registerednursern.com) who teaches nursing skills in her videos.
“My professors were the worst,” confirmed one. “I would just go home and watch Sarah RN afterwards.”
“Listen my girl RegisteredNurseRN teaches me more than any lecture,” agreed another.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing predicts that nursing shortages will worsen as the American population ages. And TikTok could play a bigger role in educating these future nurses if universities don’t improve their teaching strategies.
