Jorgensen reacts after debut
Max Jorgensen is pretty excited to be alive right now.
That’s it from me, rugby guys. Thanks for reading along tonight – a fitting start to the season with plenty of upside potential from both sides. The Waratahs don’t look as good as the Brumbies who were better at the fundamentals and reaped the rewards.
Here’s the match report from Iain Payten and if you keep coming back throughout the weekend we’ve got plenty of follow-up news and analysis for you.
My tip is going well, thanks for asking. Neither of two. Leave me alone.

Lolesio speaks
Interesting comments from Noah Lolesio after the game. Started off the bench tonight and made sure we knew why that happened by telling broadcaster Stan Sport that trainer Larkham had told him and Nic White they would start “on the pine” because they didn’t have one had played preseason footy. It won’t quite be the same this season if the Brumbies continue to play like this.
Here’s a shot of Corey Toole after he scored in the second half. The winger said physicality after the game was a notch higher than the sevens. Coped with it with no issues from where I’m sitting. I love seeing a player step up and take it with both hands. Toole and NSW winger Max Jorgensen both made super rugby debuts to be proud of.

Jorgensen told commentator Drew Mitchell he wasn’t prone to nervousness but felt a little ahead ahead of his debut tonight.

FULL-TIME
FT: Waratah’s 25 Brumbies 31
The Brumbies have continued their winning streak against NSW in NSW. The Tahs threatened a late try, but a loose ball in the back of the ruck handed it back to the Brumbies as seconds ticked down.
The Brumbies concede a penalty and the Waratahs decide to take the points. It’s an unpopular decision – the boos of the crowd – but captain Gordon knows that a penalty goal can earn his side a lost bonus point. Edmed scores the goal.

Brumbies build leadership
Waratah’s 22 Brumbies 31
The Waratahs concede an unfortunate penalty for failing to shoot from a prime position on goal. Lonergan is not missing either. Four minutes to play. Costly mistake by the home side. Before the second round against the Drua in Melbourne, they have enough time to clean up. A lot.

Tahs hit back
Waratah’s 22 Brumbies 28
NSW captain Jake Gordon scores at the end of a thrilling back-and-forth game but Edmed fails to take the extra points with a tricky kick from the left touchline. Nice return from Foketi and great to see Gordon score. Nadolo is also effective, drawing attention when the ball shifts backwards. More of this from the home team and this game will go to the end.
Here’s a clip of Jorgensen’s attempt in the second half.

Tool RESULTS
Waratah’s 17 Brumbies 28
Welcome back to Super Rugby, Nemani Nadolo. Not much time to get a feel for the game, right? Nadolo was the last line of defense against lightning-fast Brumbies winger Corey Toole but never looks like he’ll hit the bull’s eye in time. Toole is in full swing and knows what he wants. On fire.

Lonergan’s magic move
Here’s the close-up of Ryan Lonergan’s magical thinking moment. You can see the moment he knows it’s on and lets referee Nic Berry finish his sentence alone.

Jörgensen DOUBLE
Waratah’s 17 Brumbies 21
Jorgensen scores his second attempt to keep his side in touch here at the Allianz Stadium. The teenager takes a bullet from inside the Lalakai Foketi and does what he is there for, scoring his second try in 50 minutes of Super Rugby.
Tahs fans are currently channeling Bobby V here. Waratahs will not let this one go without a fight.

Brumbies DENIED: The heel has it all
Waratah’s 10 Brumbies 21
Rob Valetini’s attempt was disallowed because replays show Corey Toole’s heel touching the sideline. It’s a marginal call. It could safely be argued that he slipped down the wing in pointe shoes and stayed above the fight. But there is no attempt. It was a special run from Toole, delivering a short ball from his centre, Len Ikitau.
The Brumbies go again and eventually win the penalty to gain an 11-point lead.
