Now the government is planning to launch a super app for farmers

The government is planning to launch a super app for farmers that will consolidate multiple digital entities and existing mobile applications intended for them, said an official at the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

The consolidation will help farmers access information such as the latest research and development, weather and market updates, available services, government programs and advice for different agroclimatic zones under one roof.

The ministry is considering combining apps like Kisan Suvidha, Pusa Krishi, MKisan, Shetkari Masik Android App, Farm-o-pedia, Crop Insurance Android App, AgriMarket, Iffco Kisan and Krishi Gyan from ICAR, among others.

“Collecting different apps under one super app in one place will help farmers choose from a bundle of services according to their needs,” said the official, who asked not to be named. “The focus will be to group these apps together to further simplify the search for a relevant app.”

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar recently met senior ministry officials to discuss progress on the development of the super app. It could be launched in the next few weeks, the official added.

The super app is also used to educate farmers about crop production and technologies, as well as post-harvest issues, including marketing. It will help put farmers in direct contact with the scientific community, the official said.

The existing apps that will be integrated into the super app have been developed by multiple government bodies such as ICAR institutions, State Agricultural Universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and other departments. Now the government is planning to launch a super app for farmers
