Northern Utah is under flood surveillance through Monday, according to the weather service

Northern Utah is on a flood warning Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service, as heavy rain is likely to increase the risk of flash flooding.
The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms Sunday afternoon in northern Utah, with more extensive heavy rain expected Sunday evening and overnight. According to the Weather Service, areas with poor drainage and areas near burn scars are most likely to be hit by flash floods.
A flood warning is in effect from Sunday noon to Monday 6 p.m.
Hikers and others with outdoor plans should pay attention to the weather and consider alternative plans, the weather service advised. Do not drive through flood water.
Strong to severe storms are forecast for western Utah Sunday afternoon and evening, with the main threats being large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, the weather service said.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items such as trampolines and furniture and take shelter if they hear thunder.
Isolated thunderstorms could develop in southwestern Utah Sunday afternoon. Because the soils are already saturated, any heavy rain could cause flash flooding in slot canyons, normally dry riverbeds and in areas near burn scars, the weather service said.
After a rainy Labor Day weekend, Salt Lake City’s forecast looks sunny and clear through Thursday, with highs in the 70s.
St. George is forecast to be sunny on Labor Day, with conditions remaining clear through Thursday. Highs are expected to be in the low 90’s.
