No Way Home’ grossed $50 million in Thursday preview

Tom Holland plays Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” set box office records.

The Sony and Marvel Studios the film grossed $50 million from preview tickets on Thursday. It’s not only the best movie of the pandemic, but it’s also the third highest-grossing film in cinema history behind “Avengers: Endgame” ($60 million) and “Stars Wars: The Force Awakens” ($57 million) USD).

“This is a grand launch,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore.

Cinemark said they had the biggest US box office opening night of all time because of “No Way Home” and the ticket seller Fandango note that “No Way Home” has set the record as the year’s biggest ticket seller in addition to being the best seller for Thursday previews since “Avengers: Endgame.”

Box office analysts were certain that “No Way Home” would easily surpassed $100 million domestically in its first week of release, but Thursday’s trip had many people rethinking how high Spider-Man could swing.

Sony predicts the film will gross $130 million, but many consider that estimate to be overly conservative. Expectations are now being raised to around $200 million, as analysts strongly predict word of mouth brings more audiences to cinemas this weekend as well as repeat views.

Critics have favored Tom Holland’s third solo Spider-Man film, calling it “a celebration of the Spidey fandom.”

“People used to think the cinema wasn’t going to come back… just didn’t understand the power of a movie and a character like Spider-Man to bring die-hard fans to the cinema,” says Dergarabedian.
