Nick Foligno breaks tie in third period as Bruins beat Jets 3-2 – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (AP) — Nick Foligno broke a tie midway through the third half, Jeremy Swayman stopped 25 shots and the NHL-leading Boston Bruins rallied to beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Thursday night.

The Bruins improved to 26-4-2 and 18-0-2 at home.

Foligno scored a feed from Charlie Coyle from the left circle. David Pastrnak and Jake DeBrusk also scored for the Bruins.

Mark Scheifele and Jansen Harkins scored for Winnipeg and Connor Hellebuyck made 37 saves.

The Jets led 2-0 after 7:20 of the first period, with Scheifele taking a 1:58 lead with his 20th goal that led the team.

“Maybe we weren’t as focused as we should be at the beginning,” Pastrnak said. “That’s a damn good team to beat. They are not an easy team. Wins are never a matter of course in this league.”

Pastrnak scored his team-leading 22nd midway through the second game, and DeBrusk later equalized 2:52 on the power play.

“You’re trying your best to get out of the box against a team that’s so good at the faceoff circle and so good at the power play,” said Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness. “This is the best team in the league at the moment and we fought against them to the end.”


Boston honored Don McKenney, who died Sunday at the age of 88. McKenney has packed a lot in his nine seasons with the Bruins. He served as captain in his last two seasons with the Original Six franchise, scoring four goals in Boston either or equal.

NOTES: Five weeks after announcing that an investigation had been launched into the organization’s player verification process after Boston signed controversial prospect Mitchell Miller and cut ties with him two days later, the Bruins announced that during the Miller -Verification procedures. … Bowness is on the Winnipeg bench in his freshman season. He joined Boston as NHL head coach in 1991 and spent just one season with the club. … Morrissey extended his points streak to 11 games with the assist for Harkins’ goal. … DeBrusk’s goal was the 200th point of his career. “A really nice goal too,” said Bruins coach Jim Montgomery. “It shows his skill and ability to make electric moves on the web.”
