Nia Long responds to recognitions amid Ime Udoka’s suspension – Boston News, Weather, Sports

(CNN) — Love for Nia Long is flowing heavily on social media as her longtime partner, Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, is embroiled in controversy.

Long and Udoka have a 10-year-old son and have been engaged since 2015.

Consequently, many of Long’s supporters expressed anger afterwards reports surfaced that the former pro basketball player was facing a ban for allegedly having a consensual relationship with a Celtics employee.

“Cheating on Nia Long? The end of days must come upon us. Because there’s no way.” tweeted Nina Parkeran Emmy-nominated television host and designer.

On Friday, Long responded to the outpouring with a statement that her rep provided to CNN.

“The outpouring of love and support from family, friends and community at this difficult time means so much to me,” she said in the statement. “I ask that my privacy be respected as I process the recent events. Most importantly, I am a mother and will continue to focus on my children.”

She is especially loved by the black community having starred in classic films like Love Jones and Boyz N The Hood.

The Celts banned Udoka on Thursday for the entire year 2022 to 2023.

“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization and my family for letting them down,” Udoka said in a statement to ESPN. “I’m sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will not comment further.”

Lange has not spoken publicly about the matter, but on Wednesday she shared a repost of a health and wellness video Instagram that referred to finding light in the dark and embracing positivity.

Last year, She spoke to about Udoka snapping up the job as head coach after being an assistant for nine years.

“He’s one of the most disciplined people I know. He worked really hard for it and now he just has to work with his players and do what he does best,” she said at the time. “So it’s an exciting time for our family to be able to sit in the stands.”
