NH city hit hard by severe storms, downed trees and power lines cause massive damage – Boston News, Weather, Sports

HOLLIS, NH (WHDH) — A severe storm Friday afternoon caused devastating damage in Hollis, New Hampshire, and downed trees and power lines.

A New Hampshire man had a slim chance while driving when a fast-moving storm toppled two trees and power lines on his truck, trapping him inside.

“This one went through my roof,” Zach Leishman said, pointing to one of the trees on his car. “I heard my window shatter and the glass hit my elbow.”

After the trees crashed into the car, Leishman called for help.

“This roof is collapsing. I’m dead,” Leishman said. “I sit and hop and pray that they will reach me.”

Rescue workers rushed to the scene and had Leishman crawl out of the truck’s window.

“I pretty much got out of the truck, kissed the ground and said I’m lucky to be alive,” Leishman said.

For Leishman’s parents, the sight of his crashed truck was terrifying.

“It was very scary for me because at first I didn’t believe he was alive,” said Leichman’s mother, Debra Courtemanche.

The Federal Hill Road area of Hollis was badly hit by the storm, and a tree fell through the roof of a house just above where a Hollis resident said his granddaughter slept.

“No one gets hurt, I’ll take it,” said Mike Jenkins, whose home was destroyed by a tree.

Clean-up crews began picking up fallen trees and power lines Friday night.

“You see a wall of water and wind, don’t even try, don’t even try to ride in it. I thought I was a superhero and look where it got me,” Leishman said. “It got me nowhere.”
