SACRAMENTO, California. – Governor Gavin Newsom is running for re-election in California, but his latest TV advert is being aired in Florida.
That 30 second spot Set to air on Fox News starting Monday, captures footage of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his politics while contrasting it with California.
“Liberty is being attacked in your state. Republican leaders, they ban books, make voting harder, restrict speech in classrooms, and even criminalize women and doctors,” Newsom said as images of DeSantis and former President Donald Trump flashed on screen.
“I urge all of you who live in Florida to join the fight. Or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom — freedom of speech, freedom of choice, freedom from hate, and freedom to love,” says Newsom.
Newsom has said he has no interest in running for president, but the ad will surely fuel speculation that the 54-year-old Democrat is eyeing national office. DeSantis is a potential 2024 GOP nominee for the White House.
Newsom effortlessly repulsed a recall attempt last year and is expected to seek re-election in November.
