The Magpies face a very busy summer in the transfer market and goalkeeping is a position they are keen to strengthen.
They tried to bring a stopper in January but that didn’t materialize, with Martin Dubravka remaining first choice and showing impressive performances under Eddie Howe.
However, the 33-year-old is expected to be replaced in the next transfer window and Newcastle are hoping to lure one of their few ‘goalkeepers’ to St James’ Park.
The Daily Mail report that Kepa and Henderson are under consideration, while Arsenal’s Bernd Leno and West Brom’s Sam Johnstone are also on the shortlist.
Kepa, Henderson and Leno have all fallen out of favor with their clubs this season and have had to settle for being second-choice behind Edouard Mendy, David De Gea and Aaron Ramsdale.
Neither trio is out of contract at the end of the season, but unless they are unexpectedly given a guarantee of first-team football, they will all be pushing for a move to get first-team football elsewhere.
Johnstone is in a completely different situation, playing in the league with West Brom and his current contract expires at the end of the season.
Newcastle don’t have to budget too tight under their super-rich new owners, but the 28-year-old would be available for free while the others cost considerable sums.
The Magpies will be spending big, but they don’t want to go too far too soon in their project, hoping that even bigger goals are on the horizon when they enter European competition in the near future.
