New Zealand Warriors dominate North Queensland Cowboys, ending a 13-game losing streak on Australian soil
The performances from Dragons full-back Tyrell Sloan and five-eighth Jayden Sullivan have been strong and will give the Red V confidence they have the young spine members to back up skipper Ben Hunt and challenge the top 8.
The Dragons had more energy, discipline and aggression in the opening stanza to take a 16-8 lead at halftime.
In particular, bench forwards Josh Kerr, Zane Musgrove and Michael Molo were in powerhouse mode, swamping the Broncos. Brisbane, on the other hand, was listless, disorganized and flawed.
After Dragons winger Mathew Feagai dived to try the opener, Dragons backrower Jaydn Su’A unrolled a silky short ball that full-back Sloan sped at and scored. Sullivan then overtook his opponent Mam and the visitors took a 16-6 lead.
Broncos hooker Cory Paix crossed after the break and the hosts never looked back thereafter on their way to six unanswered tries in the second half as the Dragons fell off.
Brisbane prop Haas has been reported for a high shot at Dragons prop Michael Molo.
Warriors end 13-match losing streak on Australian soil
Andrew Webster’s Warriors ended a 13-game losing streak in Australia with an impressive 26-12 win over North Queensland in Townsville, dominated by their forward team.
The Warriors looked fit, disciplined and coherent on both offense and defense at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday, going into the break with a 16-12 lead early in the second half.
Shaun Johnson looked like the wizard of yore and orchestrated her forms well, balancing the line of cowboys for his pack of oxen. His half-partner Te Maire Martin also impressed with two try assists and three line break assists.
But it was the Warriors’ forwards, much like Canberras in the second half in round one against North Queensland, who did the damage, using skillful short passes between them to unlock the hosts’ defensive line.
