The Atlantic follows the start of his How to build a happy life Podcast hosted by renowned social scientist Arthur C. Brooks, featuring a second season on coping with the challenges of changing your life. In How to start over, Atlantic employed author Olga Khazan analyzes what it takes to transform our relationships, our work and our perspective – with a practical approach to one of life’s greatest mysteries: how we reinvent ourselves. A trailer for the season, which begins May 30 and runs weekly through early July, is available now.
Change can be tough. Sloth is powerful, mortgages and marriages are long term, and personality traits can feel hardwired. But we are also in a time of change. How to start over offers a guide to starting over, examining why change is so difficult and if it’s sometimes overrated. Olga, who recently participated The Atlantic‘s In Pursuit of Happiness event will join neuroscientists, unlikely friends, psychologists, job coaches, grieving parents, new parents and estranged lovers to talk about how to know when to start over – and how to do it right.
“We come from a long time when the happiest among us were confined to our homes and pondered all that is right and wrong about us, our relationships and the people around us. I was kind of itching for a reset,” says Olga in the trailer. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that change challenges our natural instincts; it forces us to be introspective, and it makes us realize how hesitant we might be… This series is your guide to starting fresh in some of life’s challenging areas with a practical, evidence-based approach to the big picture.”
Olga has memorably explored personality, relationships, and behavior in her writing, including recent plays like What It’s Like to Get Worse at Something, in which she reflected on the process of learning a new skill, and I Gave I myself took three months to change my personality.” Most recently, she explained a rash of strange and aggressive behavior in the third year of the pandemic in Why People Are Act So Weird and You Were Right About COVID, and Then You Weren. t.”
