A new labeling law requiring food stamps to list sesame as a potential allergen has some unintended consequences.
Due to federal law that goes into effect in January, many companies are adding sesame seeds to their products. This is because adding the ingredient is easier than trying to avoid other foods or equipment coming into contact with it.
Sesame is the ninth most common food allergy in the nation.
