Blackmill Games and M2H unveiled new videos of Isonzo, the upcoming FPS set in the trenches of the Italian WW1 front.

The video is short but shows a WWI staple cutting through barbed wire under heavy fire.

Here are a few more clips from a few weeks ago comparing the game’s environments to real life.

You can check it out below.

The game will be released in summer 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and Xbox One.

Below you can read how the game is officially described by the developers.

War in the Alps on the Italian front

Set on the southern front of the Great War, Isonzo immerses players in the titanic clash between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Inspired by the two-year battle for the Isonzo River, Isonzo will place players on new WW1 battlefields that are equally beautiful but deadly. The battles take place between the picturesque peaks, rugged valleys and idyllic towns of northern Italy. The all-new Offensive game mode puts players right in the middle of important historic offensives on the Italian front, from high-altitude battles in the Alps to the savage battles around the Isonzo River.

New in the WW1 game series

M2H developer and co-founder Matt Hergaarden said: “The Italian front was the perfect opportunity for us to improve the WW1 game series, both figuratively and literally! Alpine warfare in Isonzo brings many new gameplay mechanics to the series, along with the all-new Italian army taking on Austria-Hungary. We can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on – there are many exciting reveals along the way!”

Isonzo is the third game in the WW1 Game Series and introduces players to high altitude alpine warfare in northeastern Italy. Tannenberg revolves around large-scale maneuver warfare on the Eastern Front, and Verdun – the game that started it all – immerses players in intense hand-to-hand combat on the Western Front.

Isonzo builds on the rock-solid and authentic foundation of the WW1 Game Series, taking the intensity of Verdun and combining it with the grandeur of Tannenberg. Breaking new ground in the Alps with a complete overhaul of features – including a brand new, historically themed game mode – to take the series to the next level and engage players like never before!

Authentic high-altitude combat

Accurately modeled weapons, uniforms and sound effects immerse players in the battlefields of WW1. Everything in Isonzo, including the trenches and major landmarks, has been recreated from historical sources – from films and journals to modern photographs of the battlefields taken on research trips. The new Offensive game mode challenges players to lead the attack through stunning Italian landscapes or prepare their defense on dynamic battlefields. The tactical situation can change at any time!

Respond to battlefield conditions by carefully choosing your role and equipment: blast enemy engineers from mountainsides to prevent them from cutting your wire, use rifle grenades to clear enemy strong points across the river , or call artillery fire as an officer. This is a battle for the fate of nations, and both sides will unleash their vast arsenals of weapons. Players will handle everything from bayonets and machine guns to mortars and rifle grenades – if that’s not enough, they can call in support from heavy artillery barrage, bombing, or deadly poison gas.

The Great War on the Italian Front comes to life and is taken to unexpected heights! But remember – it’s not the mountain we conquer, it’s the enemy.
