FACEBOOK Messenger has introduced a brand new section to become more of a calling app.
A special tab allows users to quickly see everything related to the calls they have made and received from their Facebook friends.
The service is “evolving” following a surge in the number of people using the platform to call each other.
Chatty users have skyrocketed daily call numbers by more than 40 percent compared to early 2020.
The move may not come as a surprise given that in recent years people have been forced to rely on apps like Messenger and WhatsApp to keep in touch during lockdown.
“It’s a small but significant change that reflects how people use the app,” Messenger CEO Loredana Crisan said.
“Some pandemic trends are here to stay.”
That means Messenger will now have four tabs at the bottom of the iOS and Android apps.
That’s more than the three that currently exist.
This includes the traditional Chats tab, a People tab to view contacts, as well as the newer Stories.
Calls are sandwiched between chats and people.
The new feature shows a history of all the calls you’ve made, received, or missed.
You can also quickly call someone right from the tab and even start a group call.
It’s not clear when the update will hit users’ devices, but it appears to be available as of now.
