On the Final Season of New Amsterdam Season 5 Episode 7 “Maybe Tomorrow”the US Supreme Court has just turned overturned Roe v Wade. Everyone on the team reacts differently for personal reasons.

Karen has to yell at the New Amsterdam staff who are reaching out over the Supreme Court ruling. Karen enlists Max’s help finding a way to keep an abortion clinic running. She offers him all the resources New Amsterdam has.

Lauren is upset with the Supreme Court decision and vents to Floyd. Let her know She had an abortion because she was addicted to Adderall. She couldn’t take care of herself, so how was she going to take care of a newborn? Floyd asks her if that was around the same time they were dating. Lauren doesn’t answer, letting him know that it was.

Elizabeth tells her pregnant patient Michelle that she has cervical cancer and needs chemotherapy to survive. The medicine inside the chemo will kill Michelle’s unborn child although. Michelle is anti-abortion and refuses chemotherapy.

Burglary

Max starts on the phone and reaches Dr. Cecilia Romero. Cecilia runs a clinic in Texas, and Max realizes she’s near Fort Hood. Max meets with Sergeant Todd and explains that he wants to open an abortion clinic. During protests outside the clinic, Iggy witnesses a woman entering the clinic being harassed, verbally abused and her arm pulled. Iggy gets angry and protective and hits the protesterClyde holding the woman’s arm.

Max and Sergeant Todd discuss military leasehold land for the clinic Max plans to build. When Max points out that it’s the United States government Intrusion into the privacy of American citizensSergeant Todd’s Libertarian beliefs side with Max. He will help Max find a place that isn’t Fort Hood.

Karen tells Iggy that Walter will sue him and the hospital if he doesn’t apologize. Iggy believes he did nothing wrong and was just defending a woman who was being bullied mentally, emotionally, and physically. Iggy refuses to apologize.

Floyd is very distracted and forgets the name of his own anesthesiologist, Dr. Alison Winters. He moves Lauren to another room so they can talk about the abortion she had during their relationship. dr Sherene Rao and Elizabeth try to find another option for Michelle instead of chemotherapy. They offer Michelle the opportunity to have surgery to try and remove the cervical cancer. She will have to wear a catheter and colostomy bag for the rest of her life. The chances of removing all of the cancer are very slim, but this is the only way she can maintain her pregnancy. Michelle decides to have the surgery.

Sergeant Todd explains to Max that Texas is just too conservative to allow his clinic on any of its lands, be it personal, private, military or federal. As Sergeant Todd speaks, Max gets an idea and he leaves the room.

When Karen can’t convince Iggy to apologize, she calls Martin to come and talk sense into Iggy. Martin lets Iggy know he’s proud of him but he has to apologize. Martin is concerned about the views of Associate Justice Clarence Thomas about gay marriage. Floyd asks why it took Lauren 5 years to tell him about the abortion.

Disagreeing

During Michelle’s surgery, Elizabeth’s team of nurses disagrees with Michelle’s decision to have the operation performed. The surgery requires Michelle to wear a colostomy bag and be catheterized for the rest of her life. Elizabeth reminds them that they are not there to impose their beliefs, but to perform whatever medical procedures the patient is willing to undergo.

Max tells Karen that if they built the abortion clinic on board a ship, it would be a place without borders. Iggy apologizes to Clyde and is freed from the handcuffs. A youth group that Floyd and Lauren were showing around the hospital ask what the Roe v Wade upset means. Lauren shares her very personal story of having an abortion and how hard it is to make that decision. But how The important thing is that we can make our own decisions.

Elizabeth is unable to complete surgery on Michelle because the cancer has progressed too far. Michelle still refuses to have chemo, explaining that it’s not political, it’s her core values ​​and beliefs. Max can’t get a ship, but he offers to build an underground clinic near Cecilia’s office. When she declines this offer, Max offers her an entire floor in New Amsterdam. She also declines this offer and explains why she can neither leave her patients nor her city.

Elizabeth explains to Sharene that Michelle has decided to leave the hospital and find another doctor. Sharene is upset and Elizabeth reminds her that what she does with her body is Michelle’s choice. That is what the whole fight is aboutthe right to choose.

Karen explains to Max why free choice is so important to her. In the 70’s, when Karen was in college, her best friend Patty got pregnant. Abortion was illegal, but Patty found a salon willing to do it perform an abortion in the basement. Something went wrong and Patty died. Since then, Karen has been fighting for the right to free choice.

Iggy and Martin’s daughter, Sameera, boycotts their camp to support free choice. Floyd and Lauren attend a candlelight vigil to support voting rights. After a long hard day, Max drives home to spend time with Luna. He’s trying so hard to make the world a better place for future generations, especially Luna.
