Previously on New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 10, on Max and Helen’s last day at the hospital, a viral infection sweeps the hospital, resistant to any antibiotic and killing those who get it within hours. Instead of taking a flight to London, they stayed to help the team find the source of the virus. They found the source, an ice maker, anyone who consumes ice from this machine will have to die until they experiment with an antibiotic from the 1950s. Then Max and Helen catch the next flight out of the country…
Warning… vandals below!
Above New Amsterdam season 4 episode 11, Max, Helen and Luna are getting acquainted in London. Meanwhile, in New Amsterdam, Dr. Fuentes had staff running as soon as they saw her.
She kept her promise to dismantle everything Max had built. She held a meeting with all the doctors to cut their extra spending. Everyone protested except Dr. Wilder, who agreed with her cut. Later, Fuentes introduces a new holistic medicine doctor, Dr. Mia Castries (played by Genevieve Angelson).
Viva La Revolucion
Doctors Frome, Bloom, and Reynolds receive an unidentified message to meet in the morgue. When they get there, Wilder and her interpreter Ben try to convince the trio to rebel against Fuentes by agreeing to let her face off, but weaken her authority.
They rejected her. She countered with “What will Max do?“It seemed appealing to them but they ended up turning her down for fear of losing their job.
Dr. Bloom was trying to reach Leyla because she was still upset with her when suddenly she witnessed a man was struck by lightning! She helped get him to her hospital. Then she went to treat him and he went missing. Dr. Castries had swooped into the patient’s lap to treat him as his own blood. Bloom despises her profession but the man applauds it because he feels cursed!
This is the second time in a year he has been struck by lightning, bitten by a shark in the lake, kicked by a horse while swimming, and hit in the head by a golf ball while skiing! To make matters worse, the janitor entered the room and knocked him out with the door and he needed a CT scan.
Scans showed he had cancer and needed surgery. At first, he was apprehensive and pessimistic that things were not going to go his way. Ironically, Castries convinced him to continue the surgery after which she was able to heal him by balancing his universe…
Fuentes refused Bloom’s surgery and now she has joined the revolution and asks Wilder to perform it. Dr. Wilder turned her down, knowing Fuentes would see the scheduled operation and turn it down again. She offers an alternative. Since the hospital is a big place, do the surgery elsewhere. So they did it in the morgue!
Who is the Father?
Doctors Reynolds and Baptiste were having a hard time while Malvo was pregnant. They had talked to each other several times and wanted a paternity test to see which of them was the father.
Malvo and Reynolds discussed not wanting a child and how to raise one no matter the outcome. Malvo started having complications but recovered. Her two men have quashed their feud and no longer want paternity test results. But after going back and forth, Malvo wants to know who the father of his child is…
Activated and Re-rented
Frome’s patients all have jobs around the hospital to keep them busy. The Fuentes budget cuts meant their layoffs. They were defeated, as was Dr. Frome. The person hardest hit is Secret Santa (played by Geoffrey Owens), who takes the job seriously and does it year-round to cheer up the kids at the hospital. Frome turned his concerns over to Wilder and began to yield to the revolution.
She gave him an idea to hire real patients. All were hired by the hospital except Secret Santa. Frome was brainstorming an interesting idea to put him to work. His skill set was attention to organizational detail, so Frome asked him to take off his Santa suit and Interview as Fuentes .’s new personal assistant. He got the job… irony!
Helen and Max have both adapted to their respective practices. Since Max’s medical license has not yet been transferred to the new country, he has been assigned to the clinic’s front desk duties. And he’s not very good at it because his lines are very long. Helen has difficulty adjusting to the quality of care at her new clinic.
After receiving some bad feedback, Max went to the waiting patient and asked for their honest opinion about the cancer care clinic. They are honest and just want to be treated kindly and he can be contacted as he is also a cancer survivor. His relationship with them caused a stir in American and British healthcare. And it wasn’t the best time for it because the benefactor at Helen’s clinic visited and ended up turning down her sponsorship.
When she got home, Max’s permit was approved and ready to go but she has to fire him! She knows that American fixes don’t work in the British healthcare system. He treats it like a champ. She thought he would resent her for taking action for her. He tells her he doesn’t and he loves her…
