Network casts Jamie Fraser’s adult son, William Ransom

The dust has barely settled on it Season 6 finale of Starz’ Outlander, but viewers are already dying to know what happens next.

This is partly due to the Episode 8 cliffhanger where Jamie (Sam Heughan) and his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe) got separated.

It has already been revealed that Outlander writer Diana Gabaldon contributed to this writing the first episode of season 7.

It has now been announced that a new actor has been cast to play Jamie’s adult son, William Ransom.

Starz cast Charles Vandervaart as Willie Ransom

After deadlineCanadian actor Charles Vandervaart was cast to play Jamie’s adult son, William “Willie” Ransom.

Vandervaart has acted in television series such as Holly Hobbie, Murdoch Mysteries and Lost in Space, among others.

In Outlander, Willie is the illegitimate son of Jamie and Geneva Dunsany (Hannah James). However, thanks to the death of Willie’s grandfather, the secret was kept and Willie is believed to be the heir to his grandfather’s title.

The Ransom surname belongs to Willie’s grandfather, Ludovic Ransom, who was the eighth Earl of Ellesmere. On his death, Willie became the ninth Earl of Ellesmere as heir.

Meanwhile, Willie grew up as the adopted son of Lord John Gray (David Berry) and his wife (and Geneva’s sister) Isobel Dunsany (Tanya Reynolds).

When the news was shared via Outlander’s official Twitter account, Vandervaart was quick to show his excitement about joining the cast.

“So happy to be part of the family,” he wrote.

The story of Jamie’s son appears in Season 7

As expected with the casting news, this also gives viewers a clue as to upcoming storylines for Season 7 of Outlander.

What we learned from this casting announcement is that William will be appearing in Season 7 and that he will now be an adult.

Willie has appeared in Outlander a few times and even reunited with Jamie when John Gray visited Fraser’s Ridge. Currently, Willie is unaware that Jamie is his father, although there could be some suspicion.

According to casting news, Willie is eager to join the British Army in Wilmington and help end growing tensions between the American colonies.

Because of this story, it’s highly likely that Jamie and Willie will see each other again when the hit historical drama series returns.

And those who have read the book series that Outlander is based on will obviously know more about what to expect when season 7 comes out.

Outlander has been renewed for Season 7, but no premiere date has yet been announced by Starz.
