National Guard strives for perfect cannon performance during 1812 Overture – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — National Guard soldiers line up howitzer guns on Sunday in preparation for the grand finale of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular — the 1812 Overture.
A team of soldiers rolled out three cannons along the Charles River for the performance, which the Guard has been assisting with since the 1970s. Two soldiers man each cannon, and each works with the orchestra to coordinate the firing.
“It’s really cool to continue the lineage, legacy here in Boston and Massachusetts and to be a part of the Fourth of July on the Esplanade,” said Captain Nicholas Hally. “We love supporting our community, we do these things all the time, but July 4th, Independence Day, is probably the highlight of the season.”
