Nathan Caldow refused bail after being extradited from WA

Caldow did in fact inflict physical harm on the woman with the intention of sexually abusing her, court documents say.

The woman broke free and ran towards Park Road before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Caldow allegedly stole her phone and jacket in the attack and used “physical violence” on her, court documents say.

Police allege he was stalking a second 19-year-old woman just before midnight about a week later.

He is said to have repeatedly slapped her in the face and choked her until she was rendered unconscious and “defunct”.

He is also said to have sexually touched her twice without consent.

The woman regained consciousness and ran for help. She stopped a passing motorist and was taken to the police. She was hospitalized with facial injuries.

Caldow allegedly stole the woman’s phone, clothes and underwear in the attack.

The attacks made Goulburn residents nervous, organizing shuttle buses and self-defense classes. One person called for “justice” as Caldow allegedly fled NSW to WA.

NSW Police Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said on Thursday detectives had been working “tenaciously” on the matter.

She said if there were other people who felt “they may have been a victim of the same person” they should report the matter to police.

“NSW Police treat sexual violence as a very, very serious crime. And I want to encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual violence to come forward and report it to the police so we can investigate and get these heinous perpetrators off our streets.”

Caldow did not seek bail and was formally denied by Judge Greg Grogan on Thursday.

He is accused of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault on two counts; actual assault with intent to have sexual intercourse with the victim; two counts of sexually touching another person without consent; choking a person with intent to commit a criminal offense; and two counts of stalking or intimidation with intent to fear physical harm.

He will return to court next month.
