Nasa Voyager spacecraft is sending back ‘impossible data’ from the edge of the solar system, leaving scientists stunned

The VOYAGER spacecraft has sent data back to Earth that has amazed scientists everywhere.

Voyager exceeded the expectations placed on the spacecraft when it was launched in 1977.

Voyager is 14.5 billion miles away and still sending data home to Earth.

Due to the vastness of space between the two, it takes almost 21 hours to send a message to the probe.

Recent data returned by the probe about its position and orientation in space conflicts with what Nasa knows about the probe’s location.

“A mystery like this is something of a given at this stage of the Voyager mission,” said Suzanne Dodd, project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab.

Nasa in a statement focused on the Attitude, Articulation and Control System (AACS) that may be at the root of the problem.

The AACS “controls the pointing of the 45-year-old spacecraft” and “keeps Voyager 1’s high-gain antenna pointed squarely at Earth.”

The signal to Voyager isn’t weakened or faded, but the AACS is actually transmitting bad data.

“I think if there’s a way to solve this problem with the AACS, our team will find it,” Dodd said.

Launched 45 years ago, the probe is the most distant man-made object in space.

“We are also in interstellar space — a high-radiation environment where no spacecraft has flown before,” Dodd added.

Interstellar space is defined as the unexplored space where the effects of the Sun are not felt.

On board the Voyager are gold discs with pictures, music, sounds and greetings from Earth.

“The spacecraft will only be encountered and the record played when there are advanced space civilizations in interstellar space. But the launch of this bottle into the cosmic ocean says something very hopeful about life on this planet,” noted scientist Carl Sagan said of the mission and records.
