Nadine Dorries has gone viral on TikTok for all the wrong reasons after being a little confused about what her job as cultural secretary entails.

In a video made by Dr. Luke Evans, another Tory MP, she messes up the name of the department she oversees and says she’s responsible for ensuring the UK has access to super-fast broadband so everyone can “downstream” (rather than “download “). movies.

She says one of her goals is also “to make the UK’s internet the safest internet in the world”.

“It’s a huge department,” says the cabinet minister. “We are responsible for soccer fields … tennis courts in your communities.”

BBC presenter Gary Lineker retweeted the video to his 8.4 million followers and joked: “Our Minister for Sport.”

She took to Twitter to defend herself after people accused her of not being right for her role. She said her dyslexia caused her to mix up the words and say bad luck rather than court.

In a statement yesterday, the Tory MP said: “I have dyslexia, which means when I speak I often muddle my words and say things that sound like the words I’m trying to say.

“Dyslexia affects people differently. For me it affects my speech more than my writing, which is why I find solace in writing.’

According to the NHS, dyslexia is a common learning disability that mainly causes problems with reading, writing and spelling. Unlike a learning disability, intelligence is not affected.

Another symptom is that sufferers may mispronounce, mispronounce, or mispronounce words without realizing it.

“I’ve been in politics for a long time and you get a thick skin,” she added. “As a result, I haven’t spoken much publicly about how it affects me.

“But I found it difficult to see commentators and the media taunting me for something that is out of my control.”

Although the original video only received a few thousand views, Joe.co.uk reposted it and it has now been seen by millions.

Questions were raised as to whether Ms Dorries was suitable to be Minister for Culture if she could not explain the role of her department or understand simple internet terminology properly.

Comedian Lloyd Griffith retweeted the video and said: “It’s crazy that in 2022 people are getting jobs without any experience.

“Imagine being in charge of digital, culture, media and sport in the UK just because 38,692 Tories in Mid-Bedfordshire voted for you.”

Ms Dorries’ slip-up comes just months after she failed to explain how Channel 4, which the government plans to privatise, will be funded.
