A theme park worker has drawn the ire of the internet after interrupting a proposal at Disneyland Paris.
In a video shared by the couple’s best friend, a man can be seen getting on his knees while removing a ring box from his pocket. The legendary Sleeping Beauty Castle of the film series can be seen in the background.
However, the moment is cut short when the Disneyland employee runs into the frame and grabs the ring box from the man’s hand. He then runs down the stairs and instructs the couple to follow him.
Meanwhile, the woman can be seen putting her hands over her mouth in shock.
The man then tries to intervene, saying he has permission to propose to his partner.
“Yes, but it gets even better over here,” the staff member is heard saying as she leads the couple down the steps.
Another employee can also be seen in the corner of the video gesturing at the couple, asking them to go downstairs.
In the comments section of the Reddit post – where the video was originally shared – users lashed out at the Disneyland employee for his interruption.
“Not only did he wave him down, the clerk snatched his wedding ring from his hand. This is pretty high on my list of things not to touch,” read one comment.
“I’m trying to figure out if the guy was happier enforcing rules or ruining the moment. He was justifiably happier for ruining the moment,” wrote another.
A third wrote: “Grabbing the ring was insane and pushed every acceptable line. My wife’s wedding ring is one of the most expensive things we own and if someone had snatched it from my hands the first time I gave it to her I would have freaked out.”
The theme park has also apologized to the couple.
In a comment to Newsweek, a Disney spokesperson said they “regret how this has been handled.”
“We apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right,” they said.
