My family hates the name I chose for my little boy…they say it sounds like he’s in a “drug gang”.

A PREGNANT woman picked the perfect name for her baby boy but was disappointed when her family hated him, saying he sounded like he was in a “drug gang”.
The angered mother-to-be said her family made it clear she wanted a girl and was disappointed when she said it was a boy.

They have also told her that she cannot name her child Reggie as it conjures up images of gangsters.
Speaking to Mumsnet, she said: “I’m 30 weeks pregnant with my second, it’s a boy again which made it very obvious to my family that they wanted a girl and were disappointed when I revealed it’s a boy .
“After weeks of debating the name with my partner, we finally settled on Reggie a few weeks ago.
“We kept it to ourselves until we knew it was going to stay and now we’ve told the family.
“Very few family members really like the name and my family was very opposed to it.
“To say it’s the name of a drug gang and ‘I can’t name my kid that,’ and then to suggest other names.

“I’ll tell you firmly that we’ve agreed on No Reggie and that’s what it’s going to be called.
“Then I get the answer that you will change your mind when you see him.
“It really upsets me and I have to go to a sibling’s birthday party tomorrow and I really don’t want to go as I know the topic of names will be brought up.”
Other Mumsnet users quickly came forward with their thoughts on the situation.
One person said: “If your firstborn isn’t Ronnie, they can take their stand where the sun doesn’t shine.”
While another said: “It sounds like your family are ill-behaved pleasure thieves.
“Stealing your joy at having an adorable little boy by expressing their own disappointment and then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, stealing your joy at having your perfect name announced by telling you, that you should choose something else.
“I’m so sorry you behaved so horribly.”
A third person said that’s exactly why you should keep your child’s name private before it’s born.
They said: “People tend not to give you such negative reactions if you wait to announce until the baby is actually born – few people would be so rude to a real baby.
“The damage is now sadly done, so it just depends on how much you love the name – if you do, tell them their opinions are irrelevant and you won’t change them.
“For what it’s worth, I love Reggie and think you should hold on to your guns!!”
