Murder investigation launched after man found dead in parking lot

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in an Essex car park.
Police believe he was previously attacked at a nearby pub.
The man, in his 40s, was spotted in a car park next to an island on Furtherwick Road, Canvey Island.
Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 1:45 a.m., but despite the best efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.
The man is believed to have been attacked shortly before near the town’s Haystack pub.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to offer my condolences to the family of the deceased.
“There is a team of officers and staff working hard to find out what happened to him and we are beginning to get a picture of the circumstances surrounding the attack.
“If you saw what happened or have any other information about the attack, you must contact us.”
An area of the island, including Furtherwick Road and Long Road, has been cordoned off while police conduct inquiries.
Disruption is expected throughout the day in central Canvey.
