ST. LOUIS – The sounds of Broadway are just a week away from taking over Forest Park. The Munya historic landmark of Forest Park, begins its 104th season of shows on Monday, June 13 with the jazz classic Chicago.
The entire core cast has returned from last year’s COVID-cut production. This is followed by Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot, Disney’s Mary Poppins, Sweeney Todd, Legally Blonde, The Color Purple and finally Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
In his first season as President and CEO, Kwofe Coleman looks forward to delivering a season that has something for everyone.
“Our job, our promise, is to make a lineup or a season that has something for everyone,” Coleman said. “So if we can get seven shows that reach different parts of the community, reach different levels of interest — get a classic, get something contemporary, something for the kids, something that makes you laugh, something that makes you cry brings , something that will make you dance – then we’ve done the job.
Major renovation of the stagethe grounds and behind-the-scenes facilities are all complete, thanks to Muny’s successful Second Century Capital Campaign.
“The rehearsals take place on this state-of-the-art rehearsal stage. Those lawns. The stage… the stage. The towers, the turntable, the lights said this is important enough to us that our children, our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren have this,” said Coleman.
