Mum scoffed at the ‘unnecessary’ complicated spelling of her baby’s name, which she insists is ‘Irish’ – but it really isn’t

Finding the perfect baby name is not always an easy task for new parents and that is why hundreds of baby name books have been published over the years.

A mom decided to give her daughter a common enough name with a very complicated spelling — and TikTokers are trolling her for it.

TikToker Jayke posted a video questioning a baby name she came across.

Iveagh is the name spelling of a mother she has come to terms with – although it should be pronounced Ivy.

Jayke’s video pans across a child’s room with the name written in big capital letters.

She jokingly included a caption that read, “It’s like you say Ivy but cough at the same time.”

Your comments section is full of people but they aren’t very amused.

Most commenters just don’t understand why she would choose such a different spelling.

One person wrote: “The spelling is so unnecessary.”

“Wouldn’t that be more I-vay? I’m confused with spelling,” someone else asked.

A third user asked, “Why is it fun to spell names differently? I don’t hate it, I just don’t get it.”

“Ivy is so pretty. Why are people doing this?” someone else asked.

Another TikToker wrote: “My name isn’t entirely unique, but the spelling has given me trouble all my life. I really feel for little Iveagh, she’ll correct people.”

“When Emily spelled Emmaly, I sympathize with the little girl,” added another.

Another person said: “She’s going to go through a world of stress because of that name. And the teachers… it’s a lovely name, but she’ll get tired of being asked how to pronounce it.”

“Poor baby. Lovely name, tragic spelling,” wrote another user.

People trying to understand Jayke’s baby naming decision have also weighed in.

One person wrote: “In the comments of [another] video she says it’s a common spelling in Ireland and is close to her and her husband!”

Someone wrote back: “It’s the Irish spelling of territory, not a child’s name. In that case, it’s not pronounced ‘Ivy’ either.”

While Jakye isn’t the mom who chose this interesting spelling, she still noted the negative reaction she received from the TikTok community for posting the video and wrote back to everyone who commented.

She said: “To everyone: I also have a ‘uniquely’ spelled name and this video was meant to be silly not mean. I just know what Iveagh is up to.”
