Mugshot of Highland Park gunman released as he confesses in court

Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, on his first court appearance, confessed to firing more than 80 shots at the July 4th parade in Highland Park.
Crimo, 21, who appeared expressionless in his first mugshot, released just before his hearing on Wednesday morning, was denied bail.
During the bail hearing, Assistant District Attorney Ben Dillon told a judge that Crimo “issued a voluntary statement confessing his actions.” Crimo admitted he climbed onto the roof of a building above the parade and “looked down his visor and opened fire,” Dillon said.
According to Dillon, Crimo fired a 30-round magazine, then two more. The police secured 83 shell casings on the roof.
Crimo appeared virtually, remained silent for most of the hearing and showed no reaction as Dillon read out the names of seven of those killed and recounted details of Monday’s massacre. Crimo wore a black t-shirt that featured a rose tattoo around his neck.
Crimo has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder and Lake County Prosecutor Eric Rinehart said he expects “many more charges” to be brought against him.
“Yesterday I referred to the fact that there were additional charges, many more charges against this defendant because so many people were injured,” Rinehart said Wednesday. “For every person injured, people can expect an attempted murder charge, as well as a serious battery with a gun load.”
In his booking photo, Crimo wore a black t-shirt and his cheek and neck tattoos could be seen.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said Wednesday that after the Highland Park shooting, Crimo was considering carrying out another assault in Madison, Wisconsin, with another firearm he had in his car.
“Investigators have gathered some information from which it appears that he drove around when he drove into Madison, but he saw a celebration that was taking place in Madison and he seriously considered using the firearm he had in his vehicle. to commit another shooting Madison,” Covelli said.
However, Crimo decided to turn around and throw his cellphone in Middleton, Wisconsin. He was arrested Monday night in Lake Forest, about five miles from the scene.
Crimo’s parents have not been charged and are being represented by attorney Steve Greenberg, while their son has hired two attorneys from another firm.
“I don’t think anyone is ever aware of any red flags to believe that their son is going to go into his own community and start shooting people,” Greenberg said on behalf of Crimo’s parents.
“Had they seen any signs of this, I think they would have acted. They are responsible parents.”
