An unlikely duo of animal lovers are delighting animal lovers online.

A deer was spotted in southern India yesterday having great fun riding a little monkey for its mate.

The video shows the duo wandering around a campus, inspecting some shrubs and pipes, and has since gone viral.

It’s unclear where the quiet couple went or if their intrepid journey was actually just a short pleasure ride in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

But the friends were apparently very relaxed in each other’s company on the college campus of the Madras Indian Institute of Technology.

Their age is not known, but both animals appear quite small.

The monkey at one point adopts a sort of jockey-like position, with its large tail draped over the spotted stag’s back.

Monkeys and deer have long been known as friends.

Wild Japanese macaques have long been known to ride sika deer.

National Geographic even reported in 2019 that sometimes these relationships are sexual.

But the monkeys are also taken by their friends with benefits in Japan.

It is believed that the monkeys sometimes clean the deer, which in turn eat any fruit that the macaques drop.
