Moment when LSU basketball player faints during Joe Biden’s speech | US News

A basketball player passed out as President Joe Biden delivered a speech congratulating her on her national championship.
The Louisiana State University Tigers women’s basketball team visited the White House Friday afternoon to celebrate the 2022-2003 NCAA Division I championship season. Biden was in the middle of his speech when the ceremony caught an unpleasant surprise.
“Incredible athletes who are redefining what’s possible,” said the President. “One more thing, we’re hosting the UConn men’s basketball team later today, and they’re the men’s champions…”
At that moment, audience attention shifted from Biden to the group of LSU players and staff standing to his right.
“Oh oh oh oh,” someone was heard saying Video It shows people facing the center of the group as several officers charge forward.
“Are you alright?” a person was heard saying.
Freshman forward Sa’Myah Smith had collapsed. One picture showed her leaning back with her eyes open while various people supported her.
LSU coach Kim Mulkey later said that Smith was “doing fine.”
“As you can see, we leave our mark wherever we go,” Mulkey said Lafayette Daily Advertiser.
“No, Sa’Myah is fine for those of you who are concerned.” Sa’Myah is fine, I assure you.
“She’s kind of embarrassed at the moment. She doesn’t want to go, she wants to be by our side, but she needs to be examined.’
Smith was cared for by White House medical staff in a wheelchair. It wasn’t immediately clear why she passed out.
After everyone calmed down, LSU star Angel Reese gifted the President and First Lady Jill Biden custom Tigers jerseys. Reese also hugged the first lady.
Mulkey has visited the White House four times, each with a different President. The Tigers finished the season 34-2 after starting the season 23-0.
“She’s been with 19 presidents, but this might be her best moment with this team,” the president joked.
“I’m sure we’ll see each other again next year and next year.”
