Mom sues Mark Zuckerberg’s meta, alleging seven-year-old daughter’s Facebook addiction drove her to self-harm

A mother is suing Mark Zuckerberg’s meta, claiming her daughter became addicted to Facebook from the age of seven and self-harmed.

Cecilia Tesch, of Pueblo, Colorado, claims her now 13-year-old has developed multiple mental and physical issues as a result of her obsession with Facebook.

The lawsuit alleges the child suffered from sleep deprivation, body dysmorphia, an eating disorder, self-harm, severe anxiety and depression.

According to the lawsuit, the girl’s “addictive and problematic use of the platform” then led to her daughter self-harming, the Daily Mail reported.

Tesch claims that because of “constant notifications” from Facebook, her daughter lost interest in other activities and was up all night.

The lawsuit was filed on July 20 in US District Court in Denver.

Facebook has a long-established minimum age for use, which is set at 13 years and older.

That means Tesch’s daughter used the app for around six years when she didn’t need it.

It’s unclear if Tesch tried to stop her daughter from using the app before she turned 13.

However, the lawsuit alleged that Facebook’s age verification measures were “weak” and that Mark Zukerberg’s company, Meta, knowingly exploited “vulnerable users” to generate revenue.

The mother said she and her daughter were “unaware of the clinically addictive and psychologically harmful effects of Facebook,” according to the lawsuit.

Her daughter “developed numerous mental illnesses that she still struggles with,” according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges that Facebook has negligent design issues and that they fail to warn users about their harmful effects.

The lawsuit alleged that Meta “developed Facebook to enable children and young people to use, become addicted to, and abuse their product without the consent of the users’ parents.”

Facebook has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.

This is not an uncommon case as more such cases are being filed against Meta.

In July, two mothers sued Instagram, which the company also owns, for “driving girls to anorexia and suicide attempts by pushing reduced-calorie recipes and images of skeletal models to the top of their feeds,” the Daily Mail reported.
