A woman was left horrified after excitedly biting into a piece of Christmas bread – only to discover a piece of wood between her teeth.

Maria Brand was “disgusted” by the anything but festive find.

The teacher had bought the sandwich from a Tesco Express on King Street in Merseyside on November 30.

It should be a combination of “turkey and ingredients” ingredients as part of a larger food offering.

As Maria bit into the sandwich, she soon felt something “hard” in her mouth.

She parked her car and continued researching before pulling out a small piece of wood between her teeth.

Maria said the sandwich was meant to be “a little treat” during her short lunch break at work.

The teacher told the Liverpool Echo: “I was honestly repulsed taking the penultimate bite of the first half. I drove to the prom for a quick meal and contemplated the beautiful scenery until my last bite.

“I thought it was bone, but when I took it out of my mouth, I saw what can only be described as wood. It put me off, I didn’t finish the rest. I think I’ll stay away from sandwiches for a while.

“I don’t often get food offers, I usually take my own lunch but when I do I go to Tesco or when I’m feeling full I go to M&S.

“I’m really disappointed, it totally put me off and taught me to always pack my own lunch. It made me sick and I thought about it all afternoon.

Maria said her goal was not to “shame a company,” but to find out if this happened to anyone else.

She told the Echo she was curious “what other ingredients Tesco might consider for their celebratory sandwiches”.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We are sorry Ms Brand found this in her sandwich. If she brings it back to one of our stores we will look into it and she can get a full refund.’
