Liverpool’s hopes of becoming European champions for a seventh time and securing their third title of the season were ended by Real Madrid in Paris.
Salah – who was out for revenge after suffering an injury in the 2018 Champions League final which Real Madrid won – has been rejected six times by an inspired Thibaut Courtois.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper also kept Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz away as the winner of Vinicius Junior separated the teams in the second half and Real Madrid secured their 14th Champions League title to extend their record.
But Salah believes Liverpool “deserved” to lift the trophy because of the many chances their team-mates created.
“We deserved the win, we had more chances, I had two or three pretty big ones but Thibaut Courtois made incredible saves every time,” Salah told L’Equipe.
“It’s his job, Real recruited him for it. He earned his Man of the Match award. It was his evening.”
Liverpool won the Champions League 12 months after losing the 2018 final and Salah is hoping for a similar trend this time.
Shortly after Real Madrid’s victory in the French capital, Anfield is boss Jurgen Klopp has promised to bring Liverpool back to the Champions League final in 2023.
Salah added: “Again, I take inspiration from the past. In 2018 we lost the Champions League final, against Real Madrid and the following season we became European champions.
“That is my goal. We always have to look ahead, not complain.”
Salah also laughed at suggestions he was coming off a disappointing season after losing the Champions League final less than a week after Liverpool narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.
Klopp’s side were eyeing an unprecedented quadruple in the final weeks of the season after beating Chelsea on penalties in the final of the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
Salah, who scored 31 goals in 51 games for Liverpool last season, said: “Of course there have been those big disappointments but can we talk about a failed season? I do not think so.
“I was top scorer and top assist provider in the Premier League, I was voted player of the year by English journalists and by my peers.
“I’ve been consistent and determined all season and Liverpool put on an exciting game and won two trophies. You don’t need to darken the image.’
