The Red Sox and Rangers have both made big investments in their middle infields this offseason, with Boston signing Trevor Story from free agency while Texas added Marcus Semien and Corey Seager. Unfortunately for these two clubs, all three players struggled with their new clubs in the first six weeks. But all three have also set winning records, and we’re getting to the point of the season where betting on a positive regression for slow-starting Superstars can be an effective MLB DFS strategy.
Semien and Seager take on Framber Valdez and the Astros on Thursday, while Story takes on George Kirby and the Mariners. So, are some of these players worth considering for your MLB DFS roster, or should you be looking at a more sparse MLB DFS player pool on departure day? Before making your MLB DFS selection, be sure to read SportsLine Daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure’s MLB DFS advice, strategy and predictions.
McClure is a daily fantasy pro who has nearly $2 million in career earnings. And when it comes to everyday fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Named the top MLB DFS player in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune,” McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times and accounts for factors such as matchups and current results account. So he finds the best values on every page.
On Wednesday, he highlighted Royals catcher MJ Melendez in his MLB DFS player pool on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Melendez went 2-on-4 with a home run and two RBI to return 21 points on DraftKings and 28.4 points on FanDuel. Anyone who included him in their lineups was well on their way to a profitable day.

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday May 19, 2022
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday is Astros second baseman Jose Altuve ($5,400 at DraftKings and $4,000 at FanDuel). The seven-time All-Star, three-time hitting champion and 2017 AL MVP started his career as an occasional slam contact hitter but has slowly blossomed into a powerful midfielder and has already hit eight homers in just 24 games of the season.
Altuve enters Thursday’s contest against Rangers with a five-game hitting streak in which he has hit three home runs, scored five goals and driven four times. His OPS is .880 on the season and he should be happy to see Rangers come to town for an extended weekend streak. His 22 home runs against Texas is the most he has against a club and he has 1,231 OPS at home this year.
Another part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy involves stacking Altuve with third baseman Alex Bregman ($5,400 at DraftKings and $3,600 at FanDuel). The two-time AL All-Star has only averaged a .230 this season, but a .235 BABIP that’s more than 54 points below his career average points to better days.
He’s also been able to use a more patient plate approach to supplement his offensive numbers as he works through his troubles. Bregman’s 24 walks lead the American League, and his 15.6 percent walk rate is the second-highest of his career. He has five homers and 22 RBIs this season and has been on base with a few RBIs in three of his seven career plate appearances against Rangers starter Glenn Otto.
How to Set Your MLB DFS Lineups for Thursday May 19, 2022
McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who will explode for big numbers on Thursday. The stars mean it returns tournament winnings value, and it comes at a price that won’t break the bank. You can only see who that is here.
