Missouri: Student forced to drink vodka, left paralyzed and blind

Two sorority boys are accused of leaving a 19-year-old schoolboy unable to walk and speak after forcing him to down a bottle of Tito’s vodka.

Danny Santulli also had beer poured down his throat through a hose after being targeted by fraternity brothers, his family claims.

He lost the color of his skin and his lips turned blue after being left passed out on a couch during the initiation ceremony at Phi Gamma Delta.

The University of Missouri student’s heart stopped for a moment and Danny was eventually taken to the hospital in one of the other Pledge’s cars.

He suffered severe brain damage and is blind and unable to walk.

After spending months in a rehab facility, his mother quit her bank job to look after him at home full-time.

His family’s lawyer says it’s “unlikely” that this “bleak” prognosis will change and now his family is seeking justice.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Danny’s mom cried as she shared that no one called 911, even when her son’s lips turned blue.

“He still doesn’t speak or walk, he’s in a wheelchair. He lost his sight. But he hears us and he knows we’re there. We’ll just keep fighting – we won’t give up hope, she added.

Danny’s sister said: “It sickens me to see the people involved who harmed Danny walking around campus pretending they did nothing wrong.”

In a lawsuit filed last week, Danny’s parents accuse Samuel Gandhi and Alec Wetzler of targeting their son last October.

The sorority house was stocked with “cocaine, marijuana and alcohol” to ensure the vows had a night they “wouldn’t forget,” lawyers said.

Surveillance footage from Good Morning America shows Danny and other Promises being led shirtless and blindfolded down a flight of stairs at the fraternity house.

Pledges had family-sized bottles of Tito’s vodka taped to their hands and were called “pussies” when they stopped drinking, documents obtained by DailyMail.com claim.

Danny was later seen falling backwards, passing out on a table and being left slumped on a couch.

His parents have settled a lawsuit that has 22 defendants and the fraternity banned from campus for repeated violations.

Among them was frat boy Ryan Delanty, who was Danny’s designated “promise father” for the night.

At 10:57 p.m. on the cloudy night, he allegedly texted a friend saying, “My son is dead.” When asked what happened, he replied, “I left him.”

Danny’s parents are still suing Gandhi and Wetzler, who lawyers said were under caution at the time because of a previous bullying incident.

Her lawsuit alleges that Danny was on call for a month as part of his initiation process.

They say he was instructed to bring food, alcohol and cannabis to the fraternity brothers at all hours of the night and to clean their rooms on orders.

Sleepless Danny was also forced to buy things for her with his own money and was ordered to climb into a trash can filled with broken glass, the lawsuit says.

During the chicane, Weltzer singled out Danny as the “target” and forced him to drink beer from a tube before returning to his Tito bottle, lawyers claim.

When it was clear he was dangerously drunk, Ghandi first tried to help him but then walked away.

The lawsuit states that he entered the room at 12:17 a.m. and saw that Santulli had not moved from where he had left him.

The parents of a Minnesota man allege in a lawsuit that he has been unresponsive and in need of constant medical care since he was forced to drink a bottle of vodka in a fraternity at the University of Missouri. Daniel Santulli, 19, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was found Oct. 20 in a University Hospital car suffering from cardiac arrest, according to the lawsuit. His blood alcohol content was 0.0486%, more than six times the legal limit for driving, the Columbia Missourian reported. The lawsuit alleges that Santulli and the rest of his deposit class in the Phi Gamma Delta were each forced to drink a bottle of liquor given to them by their

About 10 minutes later, Danny partially slid off the couch and was unable to move his arms and legs when his face hit the floor, attorneys say.

They claim someone walking by saw him and put him back on the couch, and although his lips turned blue and his skin pale, “no one called 911.”

No one is being prosecuted for the incident except Wetzler, who is accused of supplying alcohol to a minor.

The business administration student is no longer at the university, but Gandhi, who studies architecture, is still enrolled.

Representing Danny’s family, David Bianchi says the parents want fraternity members to be charged under Missouri’s anti-hazing law.

“This is the worst case of injury harassment on record in the United States. You can’t be worse injured and still alive,” he added.
